What to Expect

Merlot has gotten a bad rap as of late but there is no denying the wine's appeal. Packed with deep, dark berry fruit and nuanced hints of cocoa, herb and earth with a soft structure. Its velvety texture makes Merlot instantly appealing and an obvious alternative to similar, more tannic Bordeaux varieties.

Winemakers Notes

“This complex, artisanally crafted wine offers classic Merlot spice, ripe cherry fruit, and cocoa aromatics which persist on the palate. The balance of wood and black fruits creates a velvety, seductively smooth finish.”
-Ray Einberger, Winemaker

Had this at Morton's - at a price where I could've bought a bottle of it. Curse these restaurants that mark up their wine by glass too much!
Nice aromatics of berries and a bit of violets. Nice flavors of black currants, blueberries, mocha/cola. A little oak at the finish, which was short. Really not bad for the price. Similar to the Red Diamond, which is also a Washington State wine.

When friends ask me to recommend an inexpensive bottle that they can find at the local supermarket, the 05 Columbia Crest Merlot is always my first suggestion. It's reliable, food-friendly, and seems to please a range of palates (refined and... less refined). It's policy in my household to always have a bottle of Columbia Crest Merlot on hand.

Berry and chocolate aroma. Distiinct chocolate taste. Smooth. Early finish on the roof of the mouth but a taste which lingers in the back of the mouth.

What a great Merlot especially at its price. Layers of fruit, pie filling, and cola. Some chcolate and oak also show

I really enjoyed this merlot with its robust flavor. It is very smooth with a rich purple color.
