Columbia Crest Grand Estates Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2004
2004 Columbia Crest Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 92ptsWS: "Smooth and velvety, with pure, focused currant and plum fruit floating over superfine tannins, subtlety shaded with hints of cream and spice. A touch of green olive sneaks in on the long finish. Best from 2009 through 2014. 6,000 cases made.""The intense fruit in this Cabernet Sauvignon does not deter from the aromatics of chocolate cherry and slight mint, which precede a palate of cocoa and black cherry flavors. This is an elegant, complex wine that culminates in the perfect balance of wood and fruit on the lingering finish." - Ray Einberger, Winemaker
At Columbia Crest we pride ourselves on delivering handcrafted, superior-quality small-lot wines, as well as affordable everyday Washington wines. Our first release in 1984 started a tradition that has established us as one of America’s most popular and fast-growing wineries.
Columbia Crest for years has been churning out really nice reds. The 2004 Walter Clore reserve is exceptional. You definitely notice nice blackberry and cherry distinctions. The wine is complex yet very smooth. I would recommend buying this again. Also for the price $30-35, I think it is a great deal. I love it. I only wish they made more of this. Oh, BTW Wine Spectator rated this a 90. I think WS under-rated it. My opinion it should be 91.
Initiallytotally closed for business. After 1 hour some decent plush red and black fruits emerge on the nose. Tha palate was initially flabby in the middle and after the hour some nice currant and blackberry kirsch emerged. A mid weight cabernet. An ok acid level and maybe just a little hot, this is surely not the best example of this I have ever had. Hell, it's the worst actually. Its somewhat so-so mid-palate and an ok finish. An average Cabernet. Did I say the color was good?
An easy drinking wine with good balance.
Well, this one disappointed me. I found it to be a bit bitter, dry & lacking strong, identifiable fruit.
Smooth reasonably priced wine

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 91+The 2004 Walter Clore Private Reserve Red Blend is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Merlot. It was aged in new French oak for 24 months. The aromatics deliver smoke, toast, spice box, cassis, and black currants. On the palate the wine is smooth textured and powerful. It has outstanding depth and concentration, enough structure to evolve for 4-5 years, and a long, pure finish. Drink it from 2012 to 2025.Wine Tasting NotesA classic Bordeaux-style winemaking protocol enhances the aromatics of earth, coconut, blackberry, and slight mint in this red blend. Fruit and oak are perfectly balanced to yield a very complex chocolate-cherry-blackberry lingering finish. This is a soft yet powerful, complex wine.
