Colosi Colosi Nero d'Avola 2008
Wine Tasting Notes Nero d'Avola is the most important red wine grape in Sicily, and is one of Italy's most important indigenous varieties. Dark ruby red, with intense fruit aromas especially cherries. Dry, full-bodied, warm wine and youthful. Perfect with red meats cooked any style, pasta with tomato sauce and aged cheese.
The nose starts dark with a little buttered toast that slowly opens to reveal red brambly fruit, cocoa and a bit of undergrowth. The palate is almost sweet and velvety smooth with blue and black fruits, bitters and a vanilla sheen. The finish is long with red licorice candy. I found myself hating this bottle one moment and then loving it the next. With a year or two in bottle it might calm down but at the moment the acidity is untamed and the extraction intense
Balanced wine. You can feel the Nero D'Avola uniqueness... save for a fruity finish, which reminds me of American Merlot, unfinished... Overall, a good wine for the price.
Love it.. taste so much bigger that the $15 price point.. Love Sicilian wines.. they don't advertise, so we get a better price. Great Value

External Reviews for Colosi Colosi Nero d'Avola
Colosi's 2008 Nero d'Avola is a fresh, vinous offering loaded with perfumed red fruit. Ideally the wine needs a few months to recover from its recent bottling, as the full range of aromas and flavors remains rather muted at this stage. This soft, supple Nero d'Avola offers terrific quality for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.
