Colgin Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Herb Lamb 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

From day one, the 2005 Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet has been an incredibly fragrant wine in the making. With a beautiful ruby pitch, the wine shows an amazing concentration of flavors. Earthy notes of truffle and forest floor intermingle with brooding aromas of black fruits, resin, chocolate mint and smoked meats, making for a very seductive Herb Lamb Cabernet. The wine is at once supple and rich, revealing great breadth across the palate. The softened texture of the tannin make this vintage of Herb Lamb Cabernet remarkably delicious at release, but this wine will undoubtedly improve with a minimum of 5 years of age, and last 20-25 years.

The Colgin winery, completed in 2002, is located at the northern end of IX Estate in the Pritchard Hill area of St. Helena, California. The state-of-the-art winery provides an inspiring view of Lake Hennessey. A collaboration between Tom Faherty, architect from Valley Architects of St. Helena, Hendrix Allardyce Interior Design of Los Angeles, Mark Aubert and the owners, the winery features classical design coupled with contemporary technology. The design emphasizes gentle handling of the fruit from the extensive sorting system to the gravity fed movement into the fermentation tanks. The winery is not open to the public but we wanted to share with you these images of the facility. Read less

Good full ruby-red. Musky aromas of black raspberry, mocha, smoke and minerals. Suave and fine-grained, with an enticing creaminess of texture. The captivating flavors of raspberry, menthol and flowers carry into the very long, broad finish, which fe... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. The color is dark and saturating with a surprising clarity for an unfined, unfiltered wine produced in the Bordeaux style. This wine embodies that structure that has become the hallmark of Colgin wines: bright jammy fruit aromas and character combined with soft ripe tannins. Strong black cherry and raspberry aromas lead into a beautifully balanced wine experience featuring fresh blueberry jam and an earthy freshness reminiscent of some of the finest wines from the Paulliac region of Bordeaux.
