Colby Red /10 2009
'Good Value,' Wine & Spirits: A blend of cabernet sauvignon, zinfandel, shiraz, merlot and petite sirah, this is a simple, pleasantly ripe red with soft, peppery flavors. Daryl Groom created it with his son, Colby, a volunteer for the American Heart Association, to raise money for heart research. (Jun 2011) 89 points The Tasting Panel: Full and lush taste with velvety texture and rich plum and spice; dense, clean and nicely made; a percentage of proceeds go to heart disease research.
This was disappointing the first night but was markedly improved the second night. Lots of red fruit followed by green pepper and earth. The green notes are a little to prominent for my taste. All in all not a bad bottle but not anything that I will rush out to buy again.
Surprisingly decent, easy-drinking blend that performed well with a wide range of palettes at our table...especially for the price point. turns out a good cause too.
