Col Solare Red Bordeaux Blend Columbia Valley 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

“The 2007 Col Solare exhibits aromas of black cherry, currant, and ripe black berries, together with subtle notes of espresso and vanilla in the nose. On the palate, this full bodied wine is rich with flavors of dark chocolate, black fruits, and a coconut spice which leads to a lingering, silky finish.” – Marcus Notaro, Winemaker

They chose property on Red Mountain to build Col Solare, Italian for "shining hill." On April 12th, 2007, Col Solare celebrated its grand opening. The refined state-of-the-art winery was constructed from sustainable materials. Behind the dramatic 300 foot stone and concrete wall that emulates the basalt cliffs lining the valley, the winemaking cellar and adjoining "barri cai" enjoy the natural cooling temperature of the earth. While I think I prefer the '06, the '07 is still a masterful wine from Col Solare. Assertive, ripe, and quite complex. Lots of blackberries, blackcurrents, with touches of vanilla and it finishes with chocolate-covered espresso beans.

Cab Sauv, Merlot, and Cab Franc blend. Fruit fwd, black pepper spice, smooth with a little tannic finish. Opens up and smooths out after 30-45 mins. Best with acidic tomato sauce, big flavors.
