Col-di-Sasso Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon & Sangiovese 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

One of the best known and appreciated Banfi labels in the world, Col di Sasso, which translates to "Stony Hill", is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese cultivated on the most rocky and impervious slopes of the Banfi estate in Montalcino. The perfect marriage between these two grapes gives birth to a youthful yet concentrated and extremely fruity red wine.

dark, inky. Not unpleasantly astringent, but a bit tannic. Licorice, dusty leather, tobacco. Nice.

A fresh red, with black fruit and light vanilla character. Medium-bodied, with a firm, young feel. Very quaffable. Drink now.

A fruity red, with clean currant and blackberry character on a medium body. This has a pleasant finish, with a subtle coating of black olive over the light, velvety tannins. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now.

The blackberry theme is augmented by thyme, sage and coffee accents in this rich red, which just lacks the harmony and length to be outstanding . Best from 2012 through 2020.

Intense aromas of blackberry and black cherry. Medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish. Excellent value. Drink now through 2008.

Plenty of plum and strawberry character, with just a hint of vanilla. Medium body and finish, with fine tannins. Serious value. Best after 2004.
