Coho is a winery founded in 2002 by Brooks Painter and Gary Lipp in Napa, California. The name has several meanings: It represents the species of salmon native to the region, which were revered by local indigenous people of the Pacific basin from California to Japan, symbolizing wisdom and generosity. Coho habitat preservation is a charity important to Painter and Lipp, who also occasionally produce wines in partnership with these causes. Their commitment to them was inspired by the Celtic legend known as the “Salmon of Knowledge.” The high quality wines are produced throughout Napa and Sonoma, and are available only through limited allocation by mailing list or auction.
