Cockburn 1983

Winemaker's Notes:

WINEMAKER COMMENTS: Extremely aromatic, when this wine is poured, the scent of wild cherries is immediately apparent. The bouquet offers a face-full of cherry, plum, spice, earth and chocolate. Slightly sweet, the wine tastes of ripe spiced plum and chocolate, with distinct raspberry on the finish. The medium tannins are in keeping with Cockburn's estimate of a 10-12 year bottle maturity period. Appellation: Porto Region: Douro Superior Varietal Composition: Touriga Nacional-55%, Tinta Barroca-27%, Touriga Francesa-23% Estate/Quinta: Quinta dos Canais Wood Type: Oak 100% Barrel Size: 3960 gallon oak uprights Time in Barrel: 2 years Age of Barrels: More than 50 years Filtration: Unfiltered

Makers of a complete line of fine ports, including Cockburn's Special Reserve - the world's most popular premium port - Cockburn's is known worldwide for its mature, less sweet wine style. What sets Cockburn's apart from all other port houses is a rigorous quality control standard exercised on all aspects of production. Being the largest vineyard owner in the Port district also gives Cockburn's significant access to stocks of aged wines for its many fine blends. Cockburn's family of ports includes Special Reserve, Vintage Port, Anno (Late Bottled Vintage) and Quinta dos Canais (Single Quinta Vintage), Fine Ruby, Fine Tawny, and 10- and 20-year-old Tawnies.
