Cobblestone Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
External Review:
The 2002 Cabernet begins with a concentrated deep ruby color. The nose instantly reveals the wine’s outstanding complexity offering aromas of black fruits, almond and mocha. The intense, velvety palate adds blueberry and pomegranate, along with the exotic essence of Tahitian vanilla. A long, spicy finish leaves each sip with lasting hints of nutmeg, clove and toasty oak.

This wine has luscious dark fruit with a minerality that is reminiscent of the Atlas Peak region. The wine is also well-balanced with complexity and richness. Simply put, it’s a stunner with a good price, too -- $39. There is also weight to the body with a substantial texture for drinking now, but it has the backbone to last for a good 15 years. The 100 percent Cabernet comes from the estate’s 1,800-foot Levine vineyard and from 8-year-old vines. The wine wasn’t filtered nor fined; and it spent 22 months in French oak barriques, half of which was new. The listed alcohol is 14.9 and there were 1,150 cases produced.
