Cobb Mariani Vineyard Chardonnay 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

Now in its third vintage, our Mariani Vineyard Chardonnay is a true labor of love. Because Mariani is a little 1-acre jewel of a vineyard, we made just 100 cases in the 2015 vintage. In the world of fine wine, that's next to nothing. We make it because Mariani yields the closest thing to a white Burgundy that I've ever tasted from California. To underscore its beautiful, pure citrus notes and sophisticated minerality, we used just 20% new oak during 18 months of aging, with a focus on one-, two- and three-year-old French oak barrels. Included on the wine lists of some of the country's top restaurants, including The French Laundry and Per Se, our Mariani Chardonnay is something unique and special. Tasting Notes Winemaker's notes: This is the most fruit forward and complex Chardonnay we have ever made from this vineyard. A bit of new oak was used to complement the citrus and white flowers of this wine. I am always striving for the richness of a Puligny-Montrachet, but the crispness of a Chablis. My 2013 and 2014 Mariani are a bit more lean and austere, while the 2015 has wonderful concentration and fruit intensity.
