Clos Thales Clos du Pecher Vin de Pays Cotes Catalanes 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

A blend of hillside, old vine Grenache and Carignane grown in riverbed sand. Only one barrel produced. Jeb Dunnuck on Clos Thalès: Focusing on vineyards located in and around the Maury area -- 40 miles from Collioure and located near the Spanish border -- this fantastic effort was started in 2004 by a group of friends who thought that they could make great wines from abandoned plots of ancient vines. Producing their first release under the Clos Thales label (prior wines were labeled under the Bistro Freres name) in 2007, the estate has grown from three original vineyards to now encompassing 8 separate plots. Regarding making great wines, after this tasting, I.m more than happy to report that they have succeeded brilliantly! Complex, exotic, and far from mainstream, these are singular wines, with the only drawback being the miniscule quantities. If given the chance, don't miss an opportunity to taste these wines!
