This is one of the past selections for the Gold Medal Wine Club-Gold Series. The Clos LaChance 2005 Glittering-Throated Emerald Chardonnay is a delicious wine that has already won an eye-popping Double Gold and Best of Show, at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. The fruit for this Chardonnay is from longtime Monterey County grower, Scheid Vineyards. This gem of a Chardonnay is reminiscent of an Old World, white Burgundy; pastel yellow melon in color, clean, crisp, refreshingly complex and well balanced. The wine opens with an abundance of aromas of freshly cut green apple, melon, pear, coupled with tropical fruit encompassing pineapple, banana, mango and papaya. On the palate, the refreshing flavors of crisp apple, citrus and tropical fruits are balanced with an acidic component. The finish is fairly long considering there was no oak used when making this wine. Try pairing with Grilled Sea Bass with Tropical Salsa Chicken Salad, Camembert Cheese. 100% Monterey County Chardonnay. Enjoy now until 2010.
External Reviews for Clos Lachance Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains
Pear blossom, mineral and tropical fruit notes dominate this concentrated wine from the Santa Cruz Mountains. These are balanced perfectly with spicy and toasty oak with hints of hazelnut to round out
Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Clean and moderately fruity if tending towards the minerally, almost metallic side of things, in the nose, the wine is pretty much as full on the palate as its partner above. It has a heavier, rounder texture and less overall energy, and it does not use its greater sense of openness to good advantage. In this case, choose the brisker alternative.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
"Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Focused on the slightly rounded fruit of Golden Delicious apples and filled out by oak and touches of roasted grains
Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Focused on the slightly rounded fruit of Golden Delicious apples and filled out by oak and touches of roasted grains, this fairly full-bodied wine sports plenty of firming character underneath, and while not acidy per se, it is very much on the tight side, especially in its noticeably chalky finish. Pair it with PEI mussels removed from the shell and sautéed in butter with shallots, basil and cilantro.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

Pale Yellow, starbright. Aromas of butterscotch, caramel, Pineapple, banana, andtoasted marshmallow. A rich, milky caramel flavor meshes well the tropical fruit aspectof the wine. The toasty oak is apparent, but balanced. Mid palate acidity through thefinish. The last thing I notice is the minerality component that is so classic Santa CruzMountains
