Clos Laborie Margaux 2001

Member Review by duncan 906:

This bottle was part of a lot I bought on the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/80826.Margaux is the largest appellation on the Medoc peninsular and a very prestigious one with 21 cru classe in the famous 1855 classification.Chateau Tayac is not one of them but is a respected cru bourgeois estate. Clos Laborie is a separate 2 hectare domaine also owned by the Portet family and the grapes are vinified and bottled separately. The wine consists of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot and spends a year in oak barrels. I started my bottle last night with my supper of chicken breast in bacon and I did enjoy it.There is certainly some blackcurrant and cherry style fruit and there is also more than a hint of cigar smoke.Initially it was fairly tannic but had softened off after a couple of hours. In short this is a nice wine

Chateau Tayac Margaux:
This is a 37 hectare Cru Bourgeois estate owned by the Portet family for generations making a Grande Vin, a second wine called Cuvee Labory and a special cuvee called Cuvee Larauza. The family also own Clos Laborie a 2 hectare plot that was once part of Chateau Desmirail and the grapes from there are vinified and bottled separately
