Clos Fourtet Saint Émilion 2006
The 2006 is living up to all the promise we saw when tasted from cask inApril 2007. The château and vineyards lie over vast cellars cut intothe limestone and it is this ancient rock that imparts itself into the winewith its alluring, smokey nose which is followed by plenty of very precise,perfectly refined fruit. It really is a stylish wine of elegance, but withstructure too - and nothing has been stretched to achieve this. A slightlyhigher proportion of Merlot means this will be drinking sooner than somevintages, though 2011-2016 should see it at its best. Moderately dense mulberry red with a purple rim, Clos Fourtet '06 has a nose that is closed yet ultraclean and fresh. The taste is lovely, with pure red fruits, fresh and alive. The wine finishes with a very firm tannic grip. Tasted from barrel April '07. By early '09, Clos Fourtet boasts a stunning, expressive nose with nuances of red fruits and smoky, perfectly integrated oak. On the palate, it offers noteworthy harmony and balance, with fine-grained tannins adding definition. This is an excellent and classic St. Emilion. Robert Parker 91.
