Wine Tasting Notes This Pinot Noir displays a deep ruby color that is darker than most Pinot Noir. Aromas of dense black spices, dark black cherry and blackberry pervade, with a hint of vanillin incorporated in the nose. Our Pinot Noir displays flavors of intense dark fruit, black spice and well integrated oak. It is a rich, complex wine balanced with good acidity and a lovely, long finish. This Pinot Noir typifies the Carneros region and our trademark style of elegance, complexity and balance.

In 1972, they co-founded Clos Du Val in the Stags Leap district of Napa Valley. The name means "small estate of a small valley". The estate is situated amongst 150-acres of vines beneath the famous palisades of Stags Leap, known for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In 1973, Clos Du Val became one of the first wineries to stake a claim on the finest hillside terroir in Carneros, now recognized for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and today farms 180 acres for its estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Clos Du Val's old-world approach to winemaking combined with extraordinary Napa Valley fruit established Clos Du Val's tradition of classic estate wines with balance, elegance, complexity and longevity. Bernard's inagural 1972 vintage was one of only six California Cabernets selected for the legendary Judgement of Paris tasting. The same vintage took first place in a rematch ten years later, proving that Clos Du Val wines stand the test of time. Today, winemaker John Clews runs day-to-day winery and vineyards operations, working closely with vineyard manager Al Wagner to farm the land gently and sustainably. Bright cherry fruit and spice aromas. Very dry, high acid wine with deep black fruit, biting tannins, chocolate, coffee and tobacco. Spicy with a nice sweetness to it.

Nose is very oak-inspired, with cranberries and currants. Nice mouthfeel on the attack, the tannins are fairly soft and give a nice backbone to the black fruits in the middle. Agree w/ bwakus22 that it's not too complex, though I think the balance and execution produce a very drinkable wine that would pair well with a variety of foods. For the price point I think it's average.

Classic California Cabernet style. New world with a fruit forward palate and aromas of cherry and raspberry. Slight amount of tannins and slightly acidic. Overall not a bad buy from the area and I would revisit this wine and try other vintages.

Chocolate caramel on the nose with hints of ripe black fruits and coffee beans. Strong fruit acidic and taste of salts. Coats the mouths with tannins and finishes surprisingly soft.

I had planned on leaving this bottle in the cellar for a couple of years but decided on a whim to drink it the other night. I have to say that I was a little disappointed. While I'm sure it might've mellowed a bit with more age, I found it to be awfully tannic and one-dimensional. The flavor was fine but not complex in any way. Overall I'd stay away - there are much better wines to be had for the price point.

This young wine will benefit from several years in the cellar, but if you drink it now, decant it for a few hours before serving. That will at least give the tannins some chance to breathe and soften, revealing the complex flavors of currants, blackberries, cassis, olive tapenade and sweet oak.

Dark ruby with purple highlights. Medium-bodied. Moderately extracted. Moderately tannic. Blackcurrants, black cherry. Dusty black fruit nose leads a dry palate with solid tannins.

The same can be said for the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Atlas Peak. That vintage was so good, it is hard to hide all the fruit and character. The wine possesses a dark ruby/purple color, medium body, good elegance and a pleasant personality, but what might have been produced if they took the chains off?

Deep ruby core with a light garnet rim. Rich aromas of chocolate and red fruit provide a framework on the nose with notes of raspberry fresh flowers and roasted spices to balance. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins and acidity that lingers. Flavors of rose tobacco leaf and black fruit emerge on the mid palate as the creamy texture coats the finish. A delightful wine this should be consumed over the next 10 years. Jeff Loo.
