Needed time to open. A little flat
One of the best cabernet's you kind kind on Napa Valley!
Needs to breathe a bit before drinking. Balanced but lacked the punch of the big reds that I prefer. Not a great value at $23.
The nose on this wine is very interesting, with some black fruit aromas up front, blackberries, plum, and a good bit of spice, all wrapped in some wonderful earthy aromas (for my friends who like that "barnyard" quality, this one has it in spades!). The taste has some lovely fruit up front that effortlessly transitions to dried herbs, anise and a bit of oak, the nicely structured tannins lend great support to a long, smooth and earthy finish. Deep lush black fruit throughout with almond and chocolate notes. Hints of burnt toast on finish.
Tasty elegance of fruits mixed with pepper and spices. Aroma of berries and flowers. It's texture is rich, full-bodied and balanced. I would say medium complexity. Simply elegant!
Black fruit is evident. Notes of Vanilla and Hazelnut.

A lovely Merlot, showing a French influence in its Bordeaux-like delicacy and earthiness. Feels elegant in the mouth, a supple, lightly oaked wine with layers of cherries, tobacco, cedar and sage. Good value. S.H. Also fairly priced, the 2006 Merlot is a blend of 77% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc. Its dark ruby color is accompanied by notes of mocha, cocoa, chocolate, berries, and a touch of herbs. Consume this medium-bodied Merlot over the next 7-10 years. ** SOLD OUT **
APPELLATION: Napa Valley COMPOSITION: 83% Merlot 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc FERMENTATION: closed-top tanks with pumpovers; 24 days with skin contact AGING: 16 months in French oak barrels, 25% new ACID: 6.0 g/L pH: 3.65 ALCOHOL: 13.5% SOIL TYPE: gravelly clay loam AGE OF VINES: 10 years old HARVESTED: September 13 - October 11, 2005 BOTTLING: June 2007 PRODUCTION: 14,000 cases produced RELEASE DATE: April 2008 Early budbreak in February was followed by a cool March and April with above-average rainfall. A heat spike in May actually burned some leaves, but the quality of the fruit was not affected. June was cool again, with the highest rainfall in history. Vineyards on heavy ground suffered with excessive vigor and extremely high mildew pressure. July and August were cool, but August 29 to 31 were extremely hot and caused some Pinot Noir dehydration and vine stress. The first week in September was unusually cool again. Then the Indian summer began and continued into November. Harvest started August 29 with Sauvignon Blanc and finished October 24 with Cabernet Sauvignon. In general, the wines are exceptional, with ripe flavors and very well balanced acids and tannins. An excellent Clos Du Val year.
