Vintage: 1979 10/16/2007

At this age, one would expect a Clos Du Val Cab to be exceptional and this one is...though don't let it age too much longer. A deep purple in color, rich aroma and deep luxurious tase of dark fruit and herbs....just a hint of toast and a long, lingering finish.

Wine Enthusiast ReviewWith just 13.5% alcohol, this Cab marches to its own beat. In an era of gooey, late-picked wines, this one's dry, tight and tannic, obviously designed for the cellar. Clos du Val always has celebrated their Cab's ageworthiness, and such are the wine's fruity cherry flavors that it should do interesting things after 2008 and beyond.

Seductive aromas of creamy, charred oak marry beautifully with silky currant, anise and black cherry-scented fruit in this smooth, seamless wine. Winemaker's Notes:

One of the earliest wineries in the now famous Stag’s Leap district, Clos du Val was founded in 1972 by American businessman John Goelet and French-born winemaker Bernard Portet. Bernard’s father had been manager at Chateau Lafite, where he and his brother Dominique (ex Taltarni) were raised. Clos du Val began life as 150 acres of vineyards on some of the finest land in the Stag’s Leap district.The winemaking team now led by John Clewes are building further on an already outstanding reputation, utilising the very best Napa fruit to produce handcrafted, estate wines famed for their balance, elegance and complexity.With fruit from the Stags Leap District, this Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is dark garnet in color with a purple core. Aromas are complex, offering notes of black fruit, cassis and spice. In the mouth, the wine is full bodied, intense and layered with flavors of black currant, mocha, herbs and a touch of vanilla. The finish lingers on and on.
