Clos du Va Cabernet 2006
Deep purple-black in color the Clos du Val Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon displays aromas of black currant cassis and spice. This powerful full bodied wine is packed with the rich flavors of ripe dark fruit. Tannins are silky and smooth resulting in a seamless yet intense wine of structure and balance. Enjoy this Cabernet Sauvignon now or age it for an additional 5-10 years.
I thought I had a bad bottle until I opened 2 more on consecutive nights. Don't know if I had a bad case or what but it is as flat as a board!
Has a young and dry, dusty nose. Licorice present even on the nose. In the mouth its more fruity with red berry flavors. Lots of woodsy notes, particularly cedar and a dry woodsy finish. Tight. Dry. Young. Sour red licorice finish.
red berries, oak, and some spice, good body, alcohol a bit prominent, nice finish
full and soft
Very much the money. Great with steak
Three and a half glasses

The same can be said for the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Atlas Peak. That vintage was so good, it is hard to hide all the fruit and character. The wine possesses a dark ruby/purple color, medium body, good elegance and a pleasant personality, but what might have been produced if they took the chains off? These wines should be better than they are. They seem like failsafe sort of efforts, designed for the uncritical shopper, but holding little interest for the serious wine lover. They are well-made and clean, but they are what I call a "single glass" style of wine. While there is nothing wrong with the first glass, there is not enough interest for a second. Actually that is an improvement for Clos du Val where the wines have gone through a sterile period that appears to be coming to an end.
This young wine will benefit from several years in the cellar, but if you drink it now, decant it for a few hours before serving. That will at least give the tannins some chance to breathe and soften, revealing the complex flavors of currants, blackberries, cassis, olive tapenade and sweet oak.

92 Points - Wine Enthusiasts"A beautiful young Cab, built along classic Napa lines. Stands at the elegant end of the stylistic spectrum, with relatively low alcohol, less ripe fruit and a delicate mouthfeel. Shows flavors of herbs, cherries and blackberries. Drink now through 2015. Good value in an upscale Cab."-Steve Heimoff, October 01, 2009.

Dark ruby with purple highlights. Medium-bodied. Moderately extracted. Moderately tannic. Blackcurrants, black cherry. Dusty black fruit nose leads a dry palate with solid tannins.
A bit burly in tannins, with a dry, sandpapery mouthfeel. But that doesn't stop the blackberry, black cherry and currant fruit from shining through, or put a damper on the sweet, toasty oak notes. Doesn't feel like an ager, so the tannins are here to stay, but a good steak will wrestle them into submission.
