Clos du Mont-Olivet Red Rhone Blend Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2008
"Medium red. Fresh raspberry and cherry aromas lifted by rose and herbs. Juicy, moderately concentrated red fruit flavors are framed by silky tannins and pick up a note of anise on the sweet, lingering back end. Very approachable wine, but finishes with surprising thrust. Sabon says this is meant for drinking over the next few years "but the balance will enable it to age longer than some might expect."...88-90" IWC 01/10
This 2008 (an average vintage) from the reputable Clos du Mont-Olivet has the usual confit scent of cherry, raspberry and a hint of latex. The wine is mature (2016) with a nice Southern Rhone entry of sage, raspberry, strawberry (for some people) and rubber (not in a bad way). Finish is warm, friendly and perfect for the lamb stews of southern France. Decent stuff that could keep through 2019. 88 points.
Moderately deep purplish red. Smells amazing, smooth and creamy. Coats the mouth with creaminess, then a big zing across the tongue, then a pleasant lingering spicy aftertaste. Very enjoyable.
