This traditionally made, old style Chateauneuf du Pape from the Sabon family has been very successful in both the 1994 and 1995 vintages. Although one of the most consistent producers in Chateauneuf du Pape, this estate's predilection to perform multiple bottlings over a frightfully long period of time (sometimes up to 8 years), results in considerable variation and consumer frustration. I have always believed in buying the earliest, or first bottling, as they tend to be fresher, with richer fruit, and more potential for bottle development. The 1994 Chateauneuf du Pape is one of the top wines of the vintage. Dark ruby/purple-colored, it exhibits a textbook Chateauneuf du Pape bouquet of black olives, salty sea breezes, garrigue, and masses of black-cherry/plum-like fruit. Extremely full-bodied, with high extraction, admirable glycerin, a dense, supple attack, and a chewy mid-palate, this layered, concentrated, impressively long Chateauneuf du Pape should drink well for 10-15 years. ** Only 12 in Stock **
