A Proprietary Blend wine from Rhone in France. 2006 Clos du Mont Olivet Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Papet 750ml
The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition exhibits a dark ruby color (darker than 2006) and a lovely, ripe nose of sweet black cherries, raspberries, pepper, loamy soil, and spice. The wine is medium to full-bodied, relatively soft for a 2005, with light tannin in the finish. It should drink well for 10ndash;15 years.
The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape kicks up the intensity ever so slightly. It has a darker ruby hue and an elegant nose of black raspberries, sandy, loamy soil notes, roasted Provencal herbs, and hints of pepper and spice in a medium to full-bodied finish. A blend of 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Counoise, and Vaccarese aged totally in old wood foudres, it should drink nicely for 8ndash;10 years.
Ruby-red. Musky black raspberry and Indian spices on the nose, with complicating notes of lavender, violet and licorice. Compellingly sweet and velvety on entry, then vibrant and delineated in the mid-palate, with an appealing floral quality complementing the flavors of crushed red berries and cherry. Pungent minerality adds energy to a long, spicy finish.
The 1990 red Chateauneuf du Pape should prove to have 15 or more years of longevity. It is a highly concentrated, backstrapping, muscular, big wine. The color is a dark ruby/purple. With swirling, a spicy, peppery nose of cassis fruit and herbs is apparent. Full-bodied and impressively endowed, this large-scaled wine requires some cellaring to shed its cloak of tannin.
Fairly tough, but shows personality, with plenty of wet earth, roasted game, spice and plum and wild berry. Elegant while packing in the flavors, with a round tannin structure. Needs time. Best from 2005.
