The nose was restrained, even after three hours in decanter. Red berry fruit dominated with chalky minerals and a hint of herbs and funk. On the palate, it was youthful and compact with candied red fruits and violet candies. Rich fruit extract stained the palate but was replaced by a sensation of heat that lingered long after the fruit had faded. (88 points)

A classically styled Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 2010 Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape - tasted out of foudre and a blend of roughly 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre and the rest an assortment of permitted varieties - shows plenty of promise... Dark ruby. Black raspberry and cherry compote on the pungent, intensely perfumed nose. Sappy, palate-staining red and dark berry flavors are impressively deep and braced by tangy acidity. Becomes weightier with aeration, which also brings out a licorice quality. Rich but suave and energetic, with excellent finishing clarity and length.

The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition offers abundant aromas of Christmas fruitcake, cassis, kirsch, spice box, smoked game and charcuterie. The wine hits the palate with a thunderous display of sweet glycerin, rich, ripe fruit, some structure and a moderately tannic, long finish. It will be even better with 2–3 years of cellaring, and should last for 12–15+ years.

The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, silky tannins, good acidity, impressive precision as well as aromatic uplift. Similar to, but less evolved than the 2009, with deeper, more concentrated fruit, it should drink well for 10–15 years.

It will be even better with 2-3 years of cellaring, and should last for 12-15+ years. Deep ruby-red. Ripe red and dark berry scents are complicated by notes of garrigue and licorice. Lush, sappy black raspberry and mulberry flavors are lifted by a zesty mineral note and a hint of cracked pepper. Shows good heft and finishes with sweet, clinging red fruit character. Lots of power here but this wine is carrying no excess poundage. A fresh, crunchy style, with bouncy honeysuckle, honeydew and green fig flavors followed by a lively, minerally finish. Delicious. Drink now. 3,000 cases made. -JM ** Only 14 in Stock **
