Clos du Marquis. St. Julien France Bordeaux " St Julien Red Bordeaux France " Bordeaux " St Julien Château Léoville las Cases Medium-Full Bodied Dry Alcohol Bottle 1986

Winemaker's Notes:

Robert Parker scores this sublime wine 98 points and writes: "The 1986 Leoville-Las Cases, which Delon continues to believe is his finest vintage in the eighties (even eclipsing the 1982), still exhibits a black/purple color with no signs of age. The nose offers up aromas of exceptionally ripe cassis fruit intertwined with scents of vanillin, minerals, and spices. The wine is full-bodied, exceptionally well-delineated, and phenomenally concentrated. Still unevolved and youthful, this is one of the most profound Leoville-Las-Cases, but for my palate, it remains a notch behind both the 1982 and 1996. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2030."

Saturated dark ruby. Cassis shoe polish camphor and rose petal on the nose; this reminded me of a great vintage of Latour. Dense and extremely concentrated; explosive yet totally backward. There nothing playful about this infant claret. Finishes with extraordinary slow-building persistence. Very serious juice; one of the great Bordeaux of the 1980s. Drink 2010 through 2035. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Firm and focused with beautifully articulated currant raspberry and nutmeg aromas and flavors; very supple for such a lean-textured Bordeaux. Approaching drinkability but it can use until 2000 to soften.--L
