Vintage
The growing season began with a short rainstorm at budbreak followed by a two-week heat spell. This impaired bloom set and reduced overall crop size, leading to concentrated flavors in the berries at harvest time. As the summer months progressed, temperatures remained mild with cool, fog-laden nights and warm, sunny afternoons. Harvest progressed at a normal clip and the fruit quality was excellent
Winemaking
The wine was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel on the skins for 5 to 10 days. After malolactic fermentation was complete, read more...the wine was racked off the lees and aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 12 months.
Winemaker Notes
This 2002 Merlot has dense black cherry red color and aromas of raspberry, black cherry, vanilla, sweet tobacco, toasty oak. It’s rich with bright blueberry and black cherry fruit flavors and a supple mouth-feel. Slight hints of oak spice and fruit come together leading to a deliciously long finish. (hide)

- Made from lush fruit carefully selected from a few Alexander Valley growers long associated with Clos du Bois, this is an elegant, full-bodied wine, featuring an extravaganza of ripe cherry and blueberry flavors. Aged around 24 months in new and older 60-gallon French oak barrels, the wine also exhibits a seductively plush layer of plum and toasty oak aromas.
