Tasting Notes - Brilliant silver straw yellow in color with aromas of ripe apple blossom, ripe pear, a hint of white peach and citrus with roasted oak and vanilla. Its bright with juicy viscosity and rich ripe apple and pear flavors and a long fresh aftertaste. The texture is silky smooth with a creaminess achieved by hand stirring the lees in barrels during the sur lie aging.

Vivid tropical fruit, orange blossom, citrus, pear and nectarine flavors lead to a medium-weight finish with plenty of fruit and oak left on the palate. Itrsquo;s rich and buttery, with the supple French oak apparent on the nose. The richness of this Chardonnay makes it a great match for shellfish, seafood and poultry. Also an excellent companion to veal or pork.

Still a touch coarse, but well-endowed with ripe fruit and light toasty, buttery oak that is wrapped around ripe green apple and pear flavors. Gains complexity on the finish. Drink now through 2010.

The 1999 Chardonnay Calcaire is big in the mouth, with zesty acidity, honeyed tangerine, pear, and citrus notes, medium body, and ripe fruit.

All of this is barrel-fermented, 45% in new French oak, and it shows in the toasty, nutty scents. Buttery and creamy on the palate, with a plump mouthfeel and layered flavors of ripe pears and dried spices. Long and pineapple-y on the finish.
