Winemaker's Notes:

Our Chardonnay exhibits ripe fruity flavors of pear, crisp green apple, vanilla and toasty caramel. A medium-bodied wine, approximately 70% is barrel-fermented to integrate fruit and oak flavors. Partial malolactic fermentation adds a rich texture and buttery component on the palate. Sonoma County Chardonnay is aged in the barrel for 6-8 months before bottling. Food Pairing: This Chardonnay is perfect for sipping alone or with fish, chicken or lighter pasta dishes. Enjoy lightly chilled - store in a cool place, then place in the refrigerator about a hour before serving.

  Clos du Bois didn’t start small and build up like many other wineries - it started with a bang. When it produced its first vintage in 1974, it already had 520 acres under vine in Alexander Valley, part of Sonoma County. When Frank Woods was coming up with the name for his winery, he thought of “Woods Winery,” obviously named after himself, but his children had something else in mind. They were taking French at the time, and instead of “Woods Winery,” they thought of “Clos du Bois,” which loosely translates to “enclosure in the woods.” Obviously the name stuck, and Clos du Bois was born. Since then, Clos du Bois has come a long way. From 520 acres, the winery has expanded to 925 acres of their own, along with many partnerships with other wineries. Instead of partnering with a few, large vineyards, the winery works with many small- and medium-sized growers across numerous appellations. Most of the grapes it purchases from other vineyards are from Sonoma County, but some come from Coastal California as well. Erik Olsen, their current winemaker, joined in June 2003, and has since taken those grapes and made them into very well-received wines. Read less

This wine has a strong, but not over powering fruit flavor. The main flavors at the front of the palate are apple and pear. There is a slight vanilla flavor. The acidity is enough to bring the flavor to a sudden, but not too short end. The color is exactly what a Chardonnay should look like.

Brilliant straw in color, the 2008 Chardonnay is full-bodied and offers up layered aromas of red and green apple, pear, vanilla bean, blossoms and lemon meringue. The palate delivers balanced structure and a palate-cleansing acidity alongside bright fruit flavors backed by intense notes of caramel, toffee, spice and toasty oak. The smooth, rich finish is lintering and wraps up with hints of butter and toast thanks to the malolactic fermentation and sur lie maturation. - Winery

The full-bodied 2008 Calcaire, brilliant silver straw in hue, has intense aromas of apple blossom, pear, nutmeg spice and subtle roasted oak, with hints of vanilla and crème brûlée. Bright, vibrant flavors of pear, white peach and soft citrus are layered with oak spice and nuances of cream.
