Went well with Indian food.
This wine has a strong, but not over powering fruit flavor. The main flavors at the front of the palate are apple and pear. There is a slight vanilla flavor. The acidity is enough to bring the flavor to a sudden, but not too short end. The color is exactly what a Chardonnay should look like.
I found this to be very astringent, not pleasing at all.
Fruity, acidic and not much else. I like a creamier flavor in chardonnay.
Nice luminous yellow. Typical CA chardonnay. Lots of oak and butter, but a nice tinge of acidity that really brings out the flavors. It makes me lust for a big, creamy pasta dish. A good wine, in spite of the anti-california-chard trend that is sweeping the wine world.
Delightfully light and fruity. I am not so good that I can tell what fruits, but I taste honey, light acidity, maybe apricot jam? I don't really know, just really tastes great with a good aroma.
External Reviews for Clos du Bois Chardonnay Alexander Valley Calcaire
The Clos du Bois Calcaire Chardonnay is a rich, husky effort; long and firm on the palate with bold fruit and sweet oak.
All of this is barrel-fermented, 45% in new French oak, and it shows in the toasty, nutty scents. Buttery and creamy on the palate, with a plump mouthfeel and layered flavors of ripe pears and dried spices. Long and pineapple-y on the finish.
Tasting Notes - Brilliant silver straw yellow in color with aromas of ripe apple blossom, ripe pear, a hint of white peach and citrus with roasted oak and vanilla. Its bright with juicy viscosity and rich ripe apple and pear flavors and a long fresh aftertaste. The texture is silky smooth with a creaminess achieved by hand stirring the lees in barrels during the sur lie aging.
The 1999 Chardonnay Calcaire is big in the mouth, with zesty acidity, honeyed tangerine, pear, and citrus notes, medium body, and ripe fruit.
Still a touch coarse, but well-endowed with ripe fruit and light toasty, buttery oak that is wrapped around ripe green apple and pear flavors. Gains complexity on the finish. Drink now through 2010.
Vivid tropical fruit, orange blossom, citrus, pear and nectarine flavors lead to a medium-weight finish with plenty of fruit and oak left on the palate. Itrsquo;s rich and buttery, with the supple French oak apparent on the nose. The richness of this Chardonnay makes it a great match for shellfish, seafood and poultry. Also an excellent companion to veal or pork.

Our Chardonnay exhibits ripe fruity flavors of pear, crisp green apple, vanilla and toasty caramel. A medium-bodied wine, approximately 70% is barrel-fermented to integrate fruit and oak flavors. Partial malolactic fermentation adds a rich texture and buttery component on the palate. Sonoma County Chardonnay is aged in the barrel for 6-8 months before bottling. Food Pairing: This Chardonnay is perfect for sipping alone or with fish, chicken or lighter pasta dishes. Enjoy lightly chilled - store in a cool place, then place in the refrigerator about a hour before serving.
The full-bodied 2008 Calcaire, brilliant silver straw in hue, has intense aromas of apple blossom, pear, nutmeg spice and subtle roasted oak, with hints of vanilla and crème brûlée. Bright, vibrant flavors of pear, white peach and soft citrus are layered with oak spice and nuances of cream. This sumptuous Chardonnay has a rich, silky texture and long finish, complemented by balanced acidity and structure, which will allow it to develop additional complexity with bottle age.
