Clos de Los Siete Mendoza 2008

Member Review by seasea:

This is one of the many high quality Cabs out of Argentina. This has a smooth drink-ability. A general crowd pleaser it also has a good complexity for the more sophisticated drinker.

Clos de los Siete is a wine project conceived in 1998 by renown French winemakers Michel Rolland and Jean-Michel Arcaute. The idea was to produce a wine in the then largely untapped landscape of Tunuyan valley, south of Mendoza, Argentina. The name derives from the original seven wine industry investors who were first attached to the project. Their mission was to make wines in Argentina that rival some of the best in the world, without the use of fertilizers, pesticides and with traditional, time-tested methods. Since then, a collective of wine-making estates bearing the Clos de los Siete name have emerged and gained prominence.  Read less

Quite ripe, but focused and juicy, with blueberry, açaí berry and bramble notes laced with fruitcake and spice hints. A nice briary edge keeps the finish honest. Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Drink now. 50,000 cases made. -JM Ruby-red. Plum, dark raspberry, mocha, spicecake and tobacco on the complex and inviting nose. Supple and sweet but with lovely intensity and chocolatey ripeness to the plum and currant flavors. Plush and palate-saturating without coming across as heavy or overly sweet. Finishes with substantial tongue-dusting tannins and very good length. A very satisfying and ripe wine with good inner-mouth perfume. Heady and floral, but also kind of closed, tight and generic on the nose. The palate packs in the extract, acidity and tannins to create a tough but loud flavor set of blackberry, pepper and licorice. Pointed on the finish and less friendly than past vintages.
