Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2015

Member Review by Tic:

Very good and open on the nose. Fruity and mild sweetness in the initial taste. Color is red on the darker side and medium bodied. I didn't feel much tanin and felt the wine was quite soft and smooth. Very nice overall.

Patience, know-how, observation, intuition...these are the skills required to make and age our wines. Our passion and dedication were born in the renowned vineyards of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. In 1859, Christophe Ogier established a wine-merchants' company called Ogier at Fils, which reached its full potential under Antoine Ogier from 1859 onwards. In 1948, our business became that of a 'negociant-eleveur' a buyer and producer of wines. Some years later, a merger took place with the firm of Bessac Caves des Papes in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, on of the major merchants and producers of wine, which had started as a cooperage. Thus, Ogier Caves des Papes has became one of the foremost houses in the Rhone valley, based in the heart of the village of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Read less

Deep purple color, lighter than many Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the mouth (it's 60% grenache after all), but has a pretty nose and a long finish. Add the swankiest, hands down coolest most old fashioned modern label around. A great deal at Costco in Northern California ($25;1/09).

This wine is outstanding; the taste is strong at the right measure. The perfect choice if your looking for fair price and excellent quality.

Not bad, but not mind-boggling either. Rustic in style, with simple plum and spice aromas and flavors. A bit of black olive and bacon fat on first opening, but that dissipated quickly as it got air. Fruit came forward at the same time. You can do better for this price. NB: retasted 2/29 after preserving with inert gas. Total grenache fest now, with sweet fruit and very little spice now, just smooth drinking. Still not the best value in CdP, but not as dire as first thought.

Mature, nice rot setting in now, black-cherries-in-kirsch decadence - lovely.
