Cline Cellars Zinfandel California 2008
Wine Tasting Notes The Ancient Vines Zinfandel shows wonderful dusty raspberry, blackberry, white pepper and spice, with coffee and chocolate characters. Aging in new and used wood has lent this wine a subtle vanilla quality that nicely complements the explosive fruit notes. Enjoy now or cellar for 5 to 7 years.
My Rating 88. Nice nose of fruit and oak. Taste a little too much rest sweetness. otherwise very pleasant, smooth and full of Berries. If you would not know this is a Zinfandel, you would never guess it.
Tasted at UNLVino 4/10/10
Nose of sharp pecorino and dusty earth. Nice hints of bacon up front. Rich red and black fruit on the palate. Sage and pepper in balance with the fruit. Nice. - Blind tasted at Schreiner's Winers zin tasting 9/18/10
Another great bargain at World Market, $8.99, may tend to be almost too sweet but still a good everyday dinner wine.
We were not impressed with this wine, even at the lower price. It seems too simple and without character. As we drank it, it was hard to decide what it was trying to be - a little of everything and not much of anything. A boring wine.

As always the California Zinfandel is a challenging and rewarding wine to produce. Severe selection criteria and master blending show in the final product, which showcases a wide array of dark berry fruit including black cherry and raspberry. Additionally, spice notes and a lasting finish of vanilla from oak aging and firm, supple tannins add complexity to this wine. This wine is ready to drink now and will continue to develop complexity over the next three to four years.
Pleasantly firm-textured, with toasty oak framing the plum, berry and spice flavors. On the finish it hints at tea and herbs.
Zesty and a bit rustic, with dried and baked cherry notes backed with anise and pepper. Tannins firm the finish. Drink now through 2015.
This mouth-coating Zinfandel offers flavors of toasted caramel and dark berries. Soft tannins and a lasting vanilla finish make the Ancient Vine Zin dangerously easy to drink.
