Smoky and peppery on the nose with deep plum and huckleberry fruit, framed with chocolaty oak notes and a nice thread of chorizo. On the palate, this is relatively big with noticeable tannins and fine integrated acids. The fruit is a touch matte and anonymous, though there is a light aromatic note on the mid-palate. The back end is tight and gently balsamic with emerging game notes that get slammed on the finish by the wall of drying tannins. This needs some time but could improve- or serve it today with rich, smoky food. 87pts

Spicy dark berries and smokey on the nose with a bit of a medicinal edge. The palette is deep and a bit syrupy with a black peppery finish. Would be delightful with some cheese!

Wow smells of serious cigarettes on the nose. I almost can't get passed it to take a sip. A bit salty smelling too. Lots of black pepper with deep red fruit. With some air and once I get passed the nose and initial sip, this opens up a bit. A very intensely flavored wine. Though gave me a strong reaction at first, I could definitely see this one growing on me.

Grapey, peppery wild berry flavors are clean, complex and full-bodied, ending with a hint of mineral. Drink now.

Stylish, with lovely aromas of spice, violet, beef and ripe black cherries. Stays deftly balanced through the finish, with well-integrated oak and firm, chewy tannins. Drink now through 2006.

Cline’s Syrah is a wine of surprising complexity. The deep purple color explodes with fresh blueberry and black cherry jammy fruit spiced with cracked black pepper aromas.

Winemaker's Notes:

Syrah is a fantastic grape to work with in the cellar. The deep red-purple color explodes and fascinates each time it is poured into a glass. Its origins stem from the Rhône Valley. The cracked black pepper aromas complement the black cherry fruitiness of this vintage.
