Cline Cellars Red Rhone Blend California Cashmere 2008
Fred Cline established Cline Cellars in Oakley, Contra Costa, California in 1982. This winery is now well established, but the current trend for all things Rhône-like was not what started Fred down the Rhône varietal path more than twenty years ago. His leap of faith beyond the traditional, well-trodden Cabernet and Chardonnay route stemmed from his belief in the “magnificent old vines in my own backyard”, and it is these vines that still underpin Cline’s efforts. The 'Cashmere' is a blend consisting of 63% Grenache, 22% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre. The Grenache portion of this blend comes from Cline's vineyard located in Oakley and is so scarce that we are always amazed that we get any tonnage at all. Fruit is luscious and concentrated. Mourvedre is also from their old vine vineyards in Oakley. Vines are dry-farmed (receiving no irrigation) and planted in deep sandy soil. Syrah comes from the cool Sonoma Coast vineyards which produce concentrated blueberry flavours and dark, rich wines .
beautiful nose of dark fruit, currants, leathers and spices. Berries, spice and cinnamon on the palate, a little heat. Got better as it opened up more, great with my charcuterie plate of meats and cheeses.
The flavor of berries just burst in your mouth. Very drinkable wine. Would definitely buy again.
Silky smooth, just like cashmere--the perfect name for this wine! Had this in the tasting room at Cline and loved it. Such finesse, this is definitely one of my favorite reds in a long time.
Soft, smooth, silky, sexy. This wine is a little heavier than what I normally prefer but I'd definitely drink it again. A hot tub wine for sure.
smooth wine, well balanced, blackberry with a long finish.
Smooth, blackberry with a hint of violets
External Reviews for Cline Cellars Red Rhone Blend California Cashmere
Rustic and country-style is the way to describe this Mourvedre, Syrah and Grenache blend. With its soft, dry finish, smooth tannins and cherry, cola, herb and spice flavors, it's food friendly.
Savory grape and wild berry flavors are trim, spicy, medium-bodied and complex, if on a modest scale. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now.
A blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, the solidly made 2008 Cashmere is a California Cotes du Rhone look-alike. Its dark ruby color is followed by aromas of loamy soil, herbs, plums, cherries, and currants offered in a medium-bodied, silky style. Enjoy it over the next year.
