The 2007 Ancient Vines Zinfandel offers briery, berry fruit, pepper, and earth notes, medium body, and no hard edges. Drink it over the next 1-2 years.

Zinfandel is California's unique contribution to the world of red wine. the vines that supply this wine are 80 to 100 years old and make a jammy and concentrated red with moderate tannins. Aged nine months in American oak, which gives it a user-friendly style. this emphasizes creaminess over power.

Juicy and jammy, showing soft but lively black cherry pie flavors, with mocha and toasty dill notes. A crowd-pleaser. Drink now through 2014.

The 2006 Ancient Vines Zinfandel shows wonderful dusty raspberry, blackberry, white pepper and spice, with coffee and chocolate characters. Ripe fruit and soft tannins make this a mouth-coating rich vintage. Aging in new and used wood has lent this wine a subtle vanilla quality that nicely complements the explosive fruit notes. Enjoy now or cellar for 5 to 7 years.

Winemaker's Notes - The 2009 Ancient Vines Zinfandel shows wonderful, fat strawberry, with coffee and chocolate characters. Aging in new and used wood has lent this wine a subtle vanilla quality that nicely complements the explosive fruit notes.

Medium red. Musky berries, roast coffee and a whiff of maple syrup on the nose. Creamy-sweet in an old-vines way, showing good breadth to its dark berry, chocolate and coffee flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins and a peppery nuance. Very ripe zinfandel but could use more primary fruit and lift.

Zesty and a bit rustic, with dried and baked cherry notes backed with anise and pepper. Tannins firm the finish. Drink now through 2015.

    Winemaker's Notes:

Fred Cline established Cline Cellars in Oakley, Contra Costa, California in 1982. This winery is now well established, but the current trend for all things Rhône-like was not what started Fred down the Rhône varietal path more than twenty years ago. His leap of faith beyond the traditional, well-trodden Cabernet and Chardonnay route stemmed from his belief in the “magnificent old vines in my own backyard”, and it is these vines that still underpin Cline’s efforts. The Ancient Vines Zinfandel draws primarily from a wide selection of our oldest, most historic and shyest-bearing Zinfandel blocks in Contra Costa County. Grapes were planted by Italian and Portuguese immigrants in the sandy, phylloxera-resistant soils of Oakley, California more than 100 years ago. These ancient, dry-farmed vineyards consistently produce fruit of stunning concentration. A small portion of Carignane and Alicante Bouschet has been added. Individual lots of Zinfandel were harvested separately according to ripeness and balance of acidity. The must was fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and then aged in American oak for 9 months. Approximately 30% of the barrels were new." Charlie Tsegeletos, winemaker.
