Climbing Wines Shiraz Orange 2008

Member Review by Philip James:

Rich and meaty, a dark deep wine. Good acidity for such a fruity wine, very voluptuous, blue berries and darker fruits. The acidity keeps it easy drinking.

The twist of a screw top reveals a musky aroma of leather, violets and a trace of vanilla on the nose. There is a fruity blueberry and plum taste on the swirl which communicates a definite structure – replete with surprisingly stiff tannins. Seductive and smooth, this offering still appears to be young in the bottle with additional cellaring required in order to unearth the potential this wine offers. Excellent quality to price ratio here. 89.

Climbing Shiraz 2005 has the high-altitude which has great effect. Rich cherry, blackberry and white pepper overlays a supple palate. Subtle use of oak adds fine, soft tannins to this well-structured wine.
