Cliff Lede Napa Sauvignon Blanc 2008

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

What a lovely nose, packed with fresh pineapple, passion fruit and lime tones that are backed with hints of cactus and a whisper of vanilla. There are even emergent notes of red raspberries playing in the mix. Great focus right up front with a rich but linear style that plays off the excellent balance in the mouth. There’s a touch of fresh almond nuttiness right up front then rich flavors of Asian pear, minerals, and apricot croissant that end with a zesty and yet ever so creamy finish. This would be an excellent wine with a holiday roast Turkey but should work exceptionally well with a broad range of foods. 94pts

Melon and tropical fruit aromas, papaya and some lemon. Palate is smooth, creamy with a crisp acidic backbone, some butter and bright citrus. Great.

A balanced sauvignon blanc made in a European style, not unlike a Sancerre. Straw color with sharp nose of grass and citrus (lemon-lime) and a hint of white floral. On the attack lively to strong acid, light in the mouth and smooth with a glycerin sheen and featuring tastes of honey, pineapple, mineral (or chaulk?), and orange. Short finish with a fruit taste. Would probably pair well with lightly spiced seafoods, e.g. shrimp or shellfish in a spicy savory fruit sauce.

This is a good Napa Savignon Blanc. Lots of cirtus on the palate with grapefrit dominating. The nose has very sweet floral notes but it has 0 residual sugar. Crisp and clean finish.

I was fortunate enough to try this wine while in Napa recently and what a refreshing notes and wonderful citrus smell. I enjoyed it very much.
