Smelling some cranberries mixed with a waxy (ala crayon or lipstick) component, and a pinch of earthiness for good measure, interesting. The taste is very traditional syrah, with the dark fruits dancing side by side with a smokey element.

This is an outdoorsy Syrah, with a dirty old coffee ground component on the nose mixed with crayon-y plastic notes. The taste is like a campfire in my mouth, a smoldering berry campfire. The finish has an all-Asian-food-covered-in-soy-sauce component to it, mixed with a shocking nutty element. I think this Syrah will open up nicely, maybe decant for 45 minutes prior to serving as the last few sips were showing real promise.

The bouquet here smells like burnt espresso and Revlon color stay lipstick, in red of course. I liken it to one of my favorite novels for a few reasons. Stick around and perhaps you'll see why. (lipstick was your first clue) As it starts out on your palate it seems shy, revealing hints of dried blueberries and mocha frappacino. As if becoming more comfortable in it's new skin, this Syrah becomes bolder and offers up a mid palate full of roasted veggies finished off with soy sauce. With or without the drama, it's a beautiful thing.

Winemaker's Notes:

95% Syrah, 5% Merlot 480 cases made Napa Valley Winemaker: Rob Hunter The fruit for this wine comes from the cooler southern part of the Napa Valley. We individually selected barrel lots for this blend choosing only the best and brightest expression of true varietal Syrah. Dense, dark purple color with aromas of black cherry, rose water and vanilla oak. Soft, sweet blackberry and blueberry flavors on the palate with notes of cocoa, winter spices and toasty oak, leading to a velvety smooth finish.
