Earthy on the nose with layered notes of tobacco, some licorice, fennel, and much more Nebbiolo character. The oak is well integrated, with sweet toast here and vanilla notes along with some weedy character and red berry fruit. with some weedy character. Round, opulent and powerful in the mouth with wild red fruits, some lingonberry, currant and raspberry, all showing lots of depth. This is showing sweeter tannins than the other 08s here with good clarity, and good length in a very powerful style. Rich and harmonious. 93pts
Milk chocolate and café au lait dominate the note at first but are quickly joined by notes of sweet wood, a touch of gaminess, and a top not of menthol. On the palate this is dark and matte with tons of wood showing and a heavy load of drying wood tannins. The fruit does gain the upper hand up front with a sweet, rich dried fruit note, but the tannins really shut it down and the moderately long finish is spicy and chocolaty. This is a well-made wine, powerful and with good juice at its core but too woody and not really fun to drink. 88pts
This offers up complex aromas that are marked by a floral cast over nuanced, earth, licorice, anise seed, mineral and grilled beefy aromas. A touch soft in the mouth and dark and chewy. This is pretty extracted, and full of earthy spicy dark fruit. The wood spice is obvious but well balanced by the fruit but the wood tannins become harsh on the finish which is pretty tight and short. Not exactly what I’m looking for but this seems to be well made if very powerful. 88pts
Powerful, sweet and spicy on the nose with integrated oak, very expensive smelling and while there are high, perfumed notes it’s a bit blunt and raw on the nose. Plush and opulent on entry and absolutely packed with extract, polished tannins, and rich fruit. The tannins clamp down on the finish though the intense plum and dark berry fruit fights through on the finale. While massive this retains fine balance and has solid potential for substantial improvement in the cellar though it will always remain a very particular expression of Nebbiolo 2012-2026 89pts
matte, dense, and even color – lovely nose of cherries in alcohol, tar, sottobosco, awith a bit of char and oak, sandlewood, leather – fairly soft and rich at first, juicy and astringent, dense and chewy, very earthy, funghi, well structured, bit shy on the mid-palate, fairly brawny with jammy and dark fruits, bit of leather, at 5 hours nose is really impressive with sure some spicy oak notes but the level of tobacco, earth, menthol, and roast cherry fully compensate, in the mouth chewy cherry fruit, perhaps just a smidge dried out, nice balance of grape and wood tannins, a bit more spicy oak than I usually like but this is raucus and interesting. This is the best showing for a Clerico wine for me. I’ve tried all vintages of the CMG since the 82 and this comes closest to what I want from Barolo. Just entering it’s plateau, I hope the wood tannin/oaky spice here melts away in rhythm with the other components of the wine. It’s already excellent but potential for improvement is certainly there.

What a beautiful bouquet, as intense black cherry and blackberry intermingled, while sweet spice, dried roses, licorice and moist earth invaded the senses. It was dark and luxurious yet still graceful and even feminine. On the palate, it opened like silk yet quickly firmed up showing focused dark red fruit, spice and saline minerality. There was still plenty of structure that stayed through the long finish with residual flavors of dried fruits and cedar.

This is a very pretty 2010 Barolo with very fine tannins fresh fruit and hints of minerals. Medium to full body delicately fruity finish. Give it until 2016 to soften the tannins a little. James Suckling.
Good full red. Liqueur-like plum and black cherry on the nose. Then fine-grained and classy but tightly wound showing utterly primary flavors of cherry red berries and menthol. There s no way into this extremely backward wine today. But it has the racy acidity and excellent clarity for a spectacular evolution in bottle. 95+ Stephen Tanzers IWC.
Features a combination of cherry, spice, eucalyptus and woodsy notes, with buoyant fruit backed by beefy tannins. This changes constantly in the glass, boding well for the future. A dense, balanced red. Best from 2018 through 2032.
