Clayhouse Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Rather big, rich and ripe on the nose which is full of spicy plum and black cherry aromas with hints of damp tobacco, black pepper, clay earth and ink. Broad and smooth in the mouth, there are some fine, edgy tannins here supporting a mid-palate that shows some extracted vegetal, marmite like flavors under a core of rich, dark coffee tinged fruit. The tannins build in the mouth, lending a hard edge to the wine, though at present there is sufficient fruit to keep the tannins covered. Blueberries appear on the backend and then lead to a finish that is short, tough and tannic in a rather raw way. A tough wine that is too tannic for its own good on the finish. I expect the fruit to fade more quickly than the tannins here so drink over the near term. 83pts
