Wine Advocate ReviewRated 95An amazing performance, even better than last years showing from tank, the 2004 Syrah Moritz is produced from one of Clarendon Hills youngest vineyard sites (planted in 1975). The wine was aged in 42% new French oak for 18 months prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Gorgeous aromas of flowers, blueberries, cassis, and meat jump from the glass of this cuvee. With huge body and a rich, intense style, Bratasiuk claims it is his hypothetical blend of a Cornas and Hermitage, although it possesses more fruit than most of those wines. It should drink well for a minimum of 15 years.
Bright medium ruby. Highly aromatic nose combines sappy raspberry, smoked meat, gunflint and pepper; slight suggestion of superripeness. Urgent and penetrating, with firm acids just this side of hard-edged. Still quite bound-up and tight, but this ve... Stephen Tanzer. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2001 Clarendon Hills Shiraz Moritz Vineyard 750ml
Luxurious Drinks offers you: Wine - red - 2001 - Clarendon Hills Shiraz Moritz - Australien - Region: South Australia - Apellation: McLaren Valley - Syrah - 750 ml.
Full bodied with a creamy middle palate and flavors of ripe, wild strawberry and rich black fruit; finish improves with air. Roasted, herbed lamb loin.
The 2001 Syrah Moritz Vineyard comes across as a more elegant version of the 2002. It is profoundly concentrated with floral notes intermixed with blackberries, creosote, earth, and background oak. Although fabulously rich and long, it appears a bit undersized next to the 2002. The large-framed 2001 will hit its peak by 2007, and last until 2020.
