Cigliuti Barbera d'Alba Campass 2006
In Piedmont, Barbera has always played second fiddle to Nebbiolo, the grape ofBarolo & Barbaresco. Now that Barolo prices are so high, the earliermaturing Barbera is coming into its own. One of my great Barbera discoveriescomes from Renato Cigliuti. Renato makes exceptional late-picked Barbera in amodernist style. His single-vineyard Campass Barbera is perfumed with violetand rose aromas; followed by juicy morello cherry fruits on the palate and aspicy, complex, delicious finish; (Rose Murray Brown - The Scotsman - Barbera's Back -Mon 21 Mar 09)
Editorial Reviews for Cigliuti Barbera d'Alba Campass
a bit wooly, some clay spice earth on the nose, not very expressive an perhaps a touch hot, oaky, VA – sweet entry, matte, fruity a bit, some nice fruity character on the mp, black berry, really no neb character, dry wood tannins on the finis, bitter,
AWE blind tasting -dirty, old wood, kind of cola character of dirty old barrel, a bit stripped, and bitter, primitive, rustic and drying, totally without charm 70-72
This opens with rather classic aged notes of soy, nori and dried fruit that gains a bit of orange rind. With air additional notes of tea, iron, leather, aged meat, and dried strawberry fruit all add to the array. The palate has a strong licorice element and nice, if slightly drying tannins. The MP offers nice lift that leads to a dried berry finale with impressive length. This was served blind and I thought it was 1988 Barolo From Monforte, neither a good nor bad guess! Drink sooner rather than later. 88pts

There is plenty of 2009 vintage fleshiness, along with an additional dimension of volume from the aging in neutral French oak barrels, but it is the purity of the fruit that comes through most clearly in this highly engaging, utterly delicious Barbera.
A little bit fresher but extremely feminine and elegant. Notes of fresh grass and herbs; sage and thyme, followed by crisp cranberry and strawberry flavors dowsed with cinnamon and nutmeg that reflect Christmas eggnog. Gripping, fierce tannins with notes
