Churchill Estates Touriga Nacional Red 2007
Churchill's Estate is the creation of Johnny Graham (of the famous Port house Graham's). The blend makes the wine almost opaque in colour, with an intense aroma of fresh cherries and bramble fruits. It's a medium to full-bodied vinho with a backbone of tannin and balanced acidity on the finish. The experience of the proprietor shows in this wine. It drinks beautifully now, but would benefit from a few years more in the bottle. Made using native Douro grape varieties, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz (better known as Tempranillo in Spain), this is a full-bodied, lively wine. Ripe cherry and strawberry aromas combine with subtle vanilla oak on the nose and follow through to the rich, velvety palate.
Churchill County’s first vineyard was established in 2001 with ten different varieties of fine wine grapes seven miles south of Fallon, Nevada. Fallon is located in the high desert Lahontan Valley area. The climate is similar to that of Eastern Washington state. Churchill Vineyards is Nevada’s second licensed winery and first “Estate Winery.” In September 2004 Churchill Vineyards successfully created its first vintage of premium estate wines.
