History: Chrysalis Vineyards -- named symbolically for the rare nectar of fine wine emerging from the barrel so as the butterfly emerges from its cocoon -- was born in 1997. The vineyard established its permanent home on the spectacular 209 acres of Locksley Estate, alongside the banks of the Hungry Run in Loudoun County, Virginia. We are excited about our alternative grape varieties, some of which include: the French Viognier, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Fer Servadou, and Petit Manseng; the Spanish AlbariƱo, Tempranillo and Graciano. But, we're most excited about Virginia's own read more...native grape, Norton. This heirloom gem consistently produces premium quality red wines of great character and intensity, and being a native plant is highly disease-resistant, able to be cultivated with minimal environmental impact. Chrysalis Vineyards is committed to restoring Norton to its rightful position of prominence among fine wines. Tasting Notes: A flavorful expression of the alluringly delicate and elegant quality of Chardonnay grown in Virginia. Crisp apple aromas and delicate hints of vanilla are beautifully balanced in the refreshing and lively wine.
