Christian Moueix Merlot Bordeaux Controlee 2005
Famed Bordeaux/Napa Valley winemaker Christian Moueix, whose family owns the greatest estates of Pomerol including Petrus, Hosanna, and Trotanoy, showcases his new Appellation Series for 2005 with a variety of reds appealing to all Bordeaux lovers. Given that 2005 may be the best Bordeaux vintage of the century, and that this offering may be one of the best deals ever coming from that region, this is definitely a "not to be missed" opportunity.
Decanted 1 hour. Definite pencil shavings and earth on the nose. Nice bouquet. Not a lot of fruit on the palate however...pencil shavings, just the tiniest bit of fruit, with some chocolate on the very short finish. Fine tannins, integrated nicely with the acidty, but lacking any sort of enjoyable fruit. An okay wine, just boring, and rather one-dimensional. The bottle of 2003 vintage Moueix Merlot was much more enjoyable, so I'm thinking "more time?"
hmmm, not sure about this one... no fruit in the nose, texture is kinda dry and flat, flavor is present but unassuming, earthy but not dirty, woody but not oaky, there's a little bit of cherry in there somewhere. this is like a reliable, trustworthy friend who you wouldn't hesitate to call in an emergency but you wouldn't invite to a party
Less than average, but for $9.99 at the local market....not the worse choice.
