Chris Ringland Shiraz Barossa Range 2008
The nose quickly gathers a bright, pleasing array of aromas that includes blackberry, licorice, smoke, barnyard, seaweed, beets and wet cedar mulch. A strong palate launches with licorice, blackberry, blueberry, candied plumb, tart cherry pie, seaweed, damp bark, and Asian spice. The long finish is supported by a slightly sour acidity that is both mild and broad, with spice and pepper holding up the back as the front palate dries. The wine stays the same over two hours without much evolution.Add winemaker's notes

Three and a half glasses
Giving the extra half glass for after this guy opened up a while. A really nice, concentrated rush on the finish, like some red currant. Almost coulis like in its focus. Fruit bomb, yes, but a tasty one at a good price point.
This one is a real tooth stainer. Overated in my opinion. It lacks finese. A bit harsh and tannic. One could say that it will develop with age but this bottle has a screw cap. The wine bursts with dark fruit flavors and has a finish that lingers, yet it is one dimentional, overly tannic, and closed
Huge over the top Shiraz with tons of intense dark fruit, well balanced and very satisfying

This is a great example of what a big, jammy Shiraz should taste like! The color is such a dark purple that it almost looks black. Captivating aromas of incense and dark berries are prevalent from the start. The flavors emerge in layers of ripe blueberries and blackberries, followed by sensuous Asian spices and chocolate. Full-bodied and powerful, the wine still retains a velvety texture with a touch of oak and a long-lasting finish. Definitely age-worthy, this wine packs a powerful punch... not for the faint-hearted.
This is the third vintage of Chris Ringland Cote Rotie Shiraz. The 2008 was sourced from 20-60 year old Barossa vines and aged in seasoned American oak hogsheads. Deep purple-colored, it emits a captivating, already complex nose of smoke, incense, Asian spices, and blueberry. Velvety-textured, intense, full-bodied, and powerful on the palate, this rich effort will drink well for another 8-10 years. It is a steal at the modest asking price.
Deep, saturated ruby. Powerfully scented, complex bouquet of dark berries, cherry-cola, cured tobacco, vanilla and incense. Broad and fleshy, offering concentrated blackberry, cassis and mulberry flavors, with supple tannins adding grip. Plenty sweet, but there's very good focus and structure too - in contrast to a number of wines from this line-up. Finishes with impressive persistence and a strong echo of dark berries.
For Shiraz fans, the great news is that there are 20,000 cases of the 2006 Chris Ringland Shiraz, sourced from Ringland's favorite sub-region of Barossa, Ebenezer. It was aged for 20 months in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads. Purple/black, it delivers a brooding nose of cedar, tar, smoke, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry. Full-bodied and massive, particularly for a wine in this price category, it offers succulent, savory fruit, great depth, and a 60-second finish. Seamless and complete, it should have a 15 year lifespan. Smart consumers will load up on this amazing value.
