Chimney Rock Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District Clone 7 2007
Wine Tasting Notes Dark red with purple undertones. Beautiful dark fruit aromas of blackberry, huckleberry. Vanilla, cedar, black currant, toffee and even a hint of lavender and violets appear in this seductive wine. The first sip of this wine brought to mind the sense of luxury. Lush, full, round, elegant -- with a subversively long finish, it has in body as much to offer as the enigmatic aromas.
This wine is a little thinner bodied while heavier on the tannins than I like. While this may correct some with time in the cellar, I believe there is better wine available in Napa at this price.

Sleek and elegant, with ripe and spicy cherry, wild berry and strawberry flavors. Turns supple and polished on the finish. Best from 2000 through 2007.
This award-winning Cabernet producer may very well have turned out its best effort to date with this 1996 vintage! It's authoritatively rich with lush currant and cherry, and layers of spice and vanillin oak on the finish. This wine has the approachability to drink now, but also has all the structure needed for long-term aging, where further nuances will be sure to emerge.
Young and tight, this rather intense Cabernet requires ample time to unfold, but once it does it shows plenty of oak on top of and underneath nice plum and cassis fruit. Having just been released, it's still a rustic ride where all elements are pronounced. Not a softy, it needs time to settle down.
Dark, rich and polished, with ripe currant, black cherry, plum and mocha. It's dense and concentrated, with a long, focused and persistent stream of flavors. Ripe tannins are plush and complex. Best from 2004 through 2012.
Smooth, ripe and polished, with a pretty core of spicy plum and currant fruit and a touch of blackberry, it wins points for its elegance and grace, with a long, smooth, flavorful finish. Drink now through 2009.
Has those textbook Napa tannins, soft and luxurious but complex, and a pretty edge of fine oak, but can't quite overcome a hollowness in the middle. The first flavor of cassis leads to high expectations, but the finish turns thin and tannic.
The dark plum/purple-colored 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a bouquet of pure black currants, subtle wood, earth, and mineral scents. A rich, concentrated palate, plush texture, layered flavors, and outstanding purity give this wine a symmetrical, harmonious feel. The well-integrated acidity and tannin result in a seamless effort that is just short of being outstanding. Anticipated maturity: now-2012.
