Chimney Rock Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Another homerun from one of the best producers focused only on Stags Leap District fruit for their Cabernets. Pure elegance on the palate with the silkiest of tannins. Rated 93 pts from Wine Advocate.

Complex, ripe, firm and vivid dark berry, plum and black cherry fruit is elegant and refined, pure and focused, with just the right backbone. Drink now through 2024.

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with enticing scents of raspberry jam, sweet herbs and spices. There is a centeredness and a poise to the 2009 that give the wine its sense of harmony and total balance. Sweet, floral notes reappear on the engaging finish. As good as this is today, it will only be better in another 2–3 years. This is another fabulous effort from Chimney Rock. The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2014–2024.

Dark scents of blackberry and black olive show this wine's richness up front. It has the cool feel of a conifer forest, hinting at juniper and cedar, lasting on a more peppery spice. Serve this with savory dishes, like lamb shank braised with rosemary and bay.

High-toned cherry, currant and wild berry fruit is supple, elegant and balanced, but this leaves you hoping for a shade more depth and richness. Drink now through 2011. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap exhibits a medium deep ruby color along with a pretty nose of red and black currants, spice, and cedar. Medium-bodied, subtle, clean flavors of earth and wood are also present. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

Elegant and supple, showing herb, tobacco and tea-laced currant and black cherry flavors that are complex and well-proportioned, with a long, lingering finish. Drink now through 2013.
