Chien Edelzwicker Santa Barbara County 2008
A blend of Riesling, Pinot Blanc and a small amount of Gewurztraminer from vineyards in Santa B arbara County, Edelzwicker looslely translates to noble blend. This wine has a slight hint of residual sugar, balanced with the perfect acidity. Unoaked in order to express the purest varietal characteristics, it is very capable of aging.
this is probably my favorite white wine in the sub-$40 range. chien is a side project for don schroeder, one of the winemakers at sea smoke. this is a really nice alsace blend of dry white grapes. i am not a regular drinker of white wines, even in the summer months, but i loved this one -- if you are into whites, i think it will be a slam dunk.
