Chianti Verrazzano Italy 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine & Spirits Review Rated 90 Dark layers of black herbs, blackberry and black currant unfold in this full-bodied Chianti. It's intense and surprisingly potent at the price, the richness cut by a rosemary edge. Wine Tasting Notes Vibrant red. Intense and persistent; aromas of violets and black currants can be readily detected. Dry and refined, with a characteristic trace of mint on the mid-palate.

The Castle of Verrazzano is located on a hilltop in the Chianti Classico area, the first grape growing and wine producing area in the world to be determined by an official proclamation, made by the grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici in 1716. Its high position, over the Greve valley, was once of strategic-military importance; today it is possible to easily overlook the vineyards which fan out across the slopes to the edges of the wood further down the valley. The castle was an etruscan then a roman settlement before becoming the property of the Verrazzano family in the VIIth century. Read less

I only start my adventure with wine, but I love good sweet wines, and I knew Tokaj Aszu and Eiswein before tasting this Vin Santo ( 04.03.2009). Maybe that's why i astonished me so greatly. First impression: perfect blend of sweet wine and single malt whisky. caramel, vanilla, oak, raisins and fresh grape notes in the nose. Mouth: elegant, sweet but balanced, so it cannot be boring. Pure pleasure!

Full bodied, medium to dark in color with pronounced legs. Strong oak flavor w/ hint of black cherry notes. Nice long finish.

Full bodied with distinct flavors. Delicious with flavors like rosemary, but tart flavors also work well. A brie with dried cherries, etc. is excellent with this. Dry and definitely not boring.
