The Antinori family has been making wine for over six hundred years, since Giovanni di Piero Antinori became part of the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri in 1385. Throughout its long history, spanning 26 generations, the family has always personally managed the business making innovative, sometimes courageous choices, always with unwavering respect for tradition and the land. Today Marchese Piero Antinori is director of the company, assisted by his three daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia, who are personally involved in the business. The qualities of tradition, passion and instinct have made Antinori one of the leading Italian producers of fine quality wines. Every vintage, every terroir, every idea is a new beginning, a new quest to raise our quality margins. As Marchese Piero loves to repeat: “ancient roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have never held back our spirit of innovation”. As well as the family's traditional heritage of estates in Tuscany and Umbria, investments have been made over time in other areas highly suited to quality wine production, in Italy and abroad, in a quest to promote new terroirs, rich in winegrowing potential. Antinori continually experiment with their vineyards and cellars, with selections of native and international clones, growing methods, vineyard altitudes, fermentation methods and temperatures, traditional and modern vinification techniques, types of wood, size and age of barrels, and various bottle-ageing periods. Piero Antinori says: “We have shown over the years that it is possible to produce internationally-acclaimed fine stylish, elegant wines in Tuscany and Umbria while maintaining their original character”. Looking to the future, Antinori explains: “There are many books in our library but they are never enough for us. Our mission is not yet complete: we are driven to express the vast potential of our vineyards and reconcile all that is new and undiscovered with Tuscany's traditional, cultural, agricultural, artistic and literary heritage. These things represent the identity of Antinori, and one of our greatest strengths is that we are in Tuscany – our essential ‘Tuscan-ness', if you will”. Read less

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Red fruit, raspberry, tar, fine well integrated tannins. Lighter than I expected; preferred the Montevetrano. Not overwhelming for the price, but very enjoyable. Drinking now.

Shocked by the overall Bretty-ness to this wine. Wasn't expecting that at all. However, after much swirling, aerating and sniffing, I was able to find a core of dark red and black fruit. With a positive midpalate of dried herbs and a leathery tannin finish with bitter cherry components.

Deep, almost black intense Ruby red color. The nose is a real treat, full and powerful aromas of blackcurrent, plums and cassis with the cabernet adding the slightest hint of herbs as the wine sits in the glass. The taste is classic sangiovese with the cab coming through on the finish. Long, long silky finish, the tannins are balanced. A very well constructed wine. (SN - 11/07)

This is a bold wine with deep rich flavors and silky tannins. Allowed to decant for more than 30 minutes the depth of flavor increases significantly and provides a true window on the concept behind super-tuscan.

Antinori - 2001 Tignanello Toscana IGT Release US$ 75.00. Now around US$ 103.00. 15 months before release. An impressive 27,500 cases made. Tasted on 16.08.2007. Bottled decanted for 3.5 hours. A blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Merlot. 13.5%. An expressive and impounding nose of cassis, olives, sweet oak. Full-bodied with superb ripe tannins, yet showing a shallow class with luscious cedar and leather (after 2 hours) with a good after-taste. Best appreciated from 2008 to 2016. A friend of mine TN as follow: A great nose of focused blackcurrant fruit and cassis, blended with sweet herbs. Superlative mouthfeel with wonderful roundness, depth and power. Excellent structure, impeccably balanced. Long. Additional notes of leather as the wine opens in the glass. Lovely stuff. Loads of blackberry coffee and olive aromas. Full-bodied with velvety tannins and a long subtle yet rich finish. A fine Tignanello that shows reserve and class. Best after 2007. 27 500 cases made. -JS Wine Spectator.

Intensity from an optimal vintage. Aromas of incense, cloves and blackberries with fresh, youthful plum jam aromas and flavors. Generous texture, velvety tannins and and a long persistent finish of cocoa dusted blackberries. plum jam in the finish. Still in its young stage, decant for consumption now or cellar for 10+ years.

In 2001 Tignanello captures a super-concentrated and dense expression of fruit that has been achieved with some loss of aromatic complexity and overall finesse. This is a super-ripe style with tons of dark fruit smoke and toasted oak in a heavily extracted style that veers on excess. There is remarkable power here but not the level of balance that is typical of the very finest vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
