Chianti Classico Castello di Volpaia 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

The Chianti Classico has a vivid ruby color and robust aromas of fresh red fruit, including hints of cherry. This is a well-structured wine with a fruity finish.

The interiors of its ancient houses, churches, underground passages and deconsecrated churches have been discreetly converted into wine cellars, bottling plants and olive presses up to the ceiling in the latest equipment and all connected by an amazing underground "wineduct." The nearly 114 acres of vineyards owned by Castello di Volpaia are at 1,300 to 2,130 feet above sea level, making Volpaia the highest winery in the Chianti region, lending a light airy quality to their wines. Vivid ruby in color with robust aromas of fresh red fruit, including hints of cherry. This is a well-structured red with a bright finish. The earth is comprised mainly of light soils consisting largely of sandstone, a sedimentary rock from the Pliocene era. Volpaia is certified organic in all of its estate vineyards with the exception of Borgianni which is made with grapes from select growers.
